Charity Darts Exhibition with Lionel Sams and James Wade (with Mr Wils – MC) - In aid of Aviva Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research. -Date: Friday 18th August 2006.

Venue: Ockford Social Club, 1 Coopers Rise, Godalming, Surrey

The Darts Exhibition on Friday 18th August was very generously received by local residents of Godalming and some people travelled from Aldershot, Kingston, Wimbledon and other surrounding areas of Surrey.

The MC for the evening was ‘Mr Wils’ and right from the offset – he set the tone for a fun packed evening of Darts and great entertainment.

The format had been decided to ‘Pay £5 to Play’ and any player could choose to play a singles game against Lionel or James or opt to team up with either of them and play a pairs game of darts. A total of 24 games were played and some much needed funds were duly raised.

The local challengers for Singles were: Steve Harding / Steve Lane / Nigel Hill / Dean Bundy / Will Hacker / Ben Hill (renamed Benny Hill!!) / Karl (The Real Power) Taylor!!?? / Martin Wade also played against his son, James for the first time ever (James won..but admitted being slightly nervous playing his dad.)

Challengers for Pairs games were: Nigel Hill / Ricky Bontoft / Karl Taylor / Dale / Nathan Johnson / Ben Hill / Ian Todd (Organiser, Caroline Todds, father) / Matt Lowe / Dean Bundy.

Also playing pairs but teaming up together were Roy Linington and Lee Hudson – but alas, James and Lionel proved too strong a pairing for them.

The evening was rounded off with a challenge head to head match between Lionel Sams and James Wade and the audience again dug deep in their pockets to pay for the privilege of seeing the two left handed dart players go head to head. It was close indeed, but James emerged victorious with a 3-2 win.

An auction was also held during the evening, where once again the spectators all rallied up and the bids were fast and furious – it seems that the darting memorabilia is very sought after.

The evening had been a great success and many photos were taken during the night – the total raised on the night was £1350 and funds are still being raised ahead of the Aviva Breakthrough Breast Cancer sponsored Walk on 16th and 17th September (which Caroline Todd and mum, Janet Woods are doing) Special Sealed Aviva Breakthrough Cancer Collection containers are in place at The Ockford Social Club, and at The Sun Inn, Wharf Street Godalming for anyone wanting to donate their loose change. These will be collected on 10th September.
